In an effort to deepen community engagement and understanding of climate change, the City of Bloomington's Economic and Sustainable Development Department (ESD) has joined forces with the Parks and Recreation Department. Together, they have launched a series of monthly "Climate Talks," aimed at educating and engaging the community on a broad spectrum of climate-related topics.
These sessions cover crucial areas such as home electrification, climate resilience through tree planting and gardening, and the health impacts of climate change. Designed to be accessible and informative, these talks are held in the scenic Switchyard Park Pavilion, allowing for an immersive in-person experience. There will also be an option to attend virtually for those that cannot attend in-person.
For those interested in participating or learning more, the Parks and Recreation Program Guides offer detailed information on upcoming talks, including topics, schedules, and how to access the virtual sessions, ensuring that these crucial conversations are as inclusive and impactful as possible.
Racial & Social Equity
The Climate Talks initiative in Bloomington facilitates racial and social equity by providing all community members, regardless of their socio-economic background, with equal access to critical information and discussions about climate change and sustainability. This inclusive approach ensures that diverse voices are heard and empowered to participate in the collective effort towards environmental stewardship, addressing disparities in knowledge and resource accessibility that often correlate with race and social status.
