Another major goal of the City’s Climate Action Plan is to promote bicycle/pedestrian commuting—what is often called “micro-mobility”— through improved safety efforts. This is part of a broader initiative to reduce reliance on fossil-fuel powered cars and promote more sustainable and healthy lifestyles in Bloomington.
The City is tackling this by making significant investments in bike lanes on several roads, as well as improving micro-mobility safety through the installation of electric scooter and e-bike parking stations throughout the City. A list of major bike lane improvements the City has undertaken can be found here on the City’s website.
Ultimately, the City aims to maintain its current Gold-level rating by the League of American Bicyclists for being a bicycle and pedestrian friendly community.
Goal TL 1. Decrease on-road vehicle miles traveled (VMT) by 8% of 2018 values.

Improving micro-mobility safety is critical for not only the commuters but also pedestrians and other vehicles on the roads/sidewalks. The City’s current Gold ranking by the League of American Bicyclists underpins its commitment to safety in this area.
