The City of Bloomington is taking a significant step towards sustainable transportation by committing to the installation of publicly-accessible electric vehicle (EV) chargers, complementing the efforts of private sector companies. With 22 charging stations already available to the public and plans for substantial expansion, Bloomington is leveraging federal and state funding opportunities to enhance its charging infrastructure. This initiative not only supports the city’s environmental goals but also makes EV ownership more practical and appealing to residents.
Expanding the network of EV chargers addresses a crucial barrier to EV adoption: range anxiety. By ensuring that drivers have reliable access to charging facilities throughout the city, Bloomington is actively reducing the concern that EVs will run out of power before reaching a charging station. This strategy is pivotal in encouraging more residents to switch to electric vehicles, aligning with Bloomington's objectives to increase EV adoption and move closer to its sustainability targets.
